Das Mandelblütenfest entstand 1934 in der Gemeinde Naro. Aufrund der prächtigen Mandelblüte hatte Graf Alfonso Gaetani die Idee, den Frühling zu feiern sowie typisch sizilianische Produkte zu fördern. Im Jahre 1937 wurde das Fest nach Agrigento in das Tal der Tempel -Valle dei Templi-verlegt und gilt heute für Agrigento als kulturelles Jahresereignis.

Il Giro d’Italia ritorna in Sicilia

Tanti gli eventi in programma nel capoluogo per il giorno che vedrà ritornare in Sicilia dopo 21 anni il Giro d’Italia.

Il Giro d’Italia ritorna in Sicilia e tante sono le attese per la gara che vedrà la prima cronometro a squadre liberarsi da Piazza Politeama in direzione Mondello, per terminare i suoi 28,5 Km di percorso a Piazza Giuseppe Verdi al Teatro Massimo. ...Il giro d’Italia ritorna in Sicilia ed è già festa, tanti gli spettacoli in programma per celebrare un ritorno a Palermo dopo una così lunga assenza.
In occasione del 91° giro d’Italia saliranno sul palco del capoluogo siciliano nomi importanti della musica italiana come: Alex Britti e Francesco Renga.
I due artisti saranno a Palermo, in piazza Castelnuovo, rispettivamente, l’8 maggio Alex Britti in occasione della presentazione delle squadre e il 10 maggio a termine della tappa palermitana sarà la volta di Francesco Renga.
Il giro che continuerà con altre due tappe dopo quella di Palermo, toccherà, l’11 maggio, Cefalù in direzione Agrigento e il 12 maggio il percorso che da Catania terminerà a Milazzo.
Un evento sportivo eccezionale che coinvolge tutti i siciliani e non solo gli appassionati di ciclismo.

Sicilian Carts of Raffaele La Scala

A look at the historic Sicilian Cart, or Carretto Siciliano
We are honored to have had the opportunity to view the famous carts of Raffaele La Scala, who made Sicilian carts in Agrigento. The collection includes large and small carts, elaborately decorated. Painting, wood carving, and ironwork are all essential arts of the maestro carradore or master cart maker.
The illustrations painted on the carts are usually of important historic events in Sicily, originally meant to keep in memory the turning points of local history for those who couldn't read.
Sicilian carts were meant to be drawn by donkeys, especially for hard work along rough terrain. They could be drawn by horses as well. Some were used at weddings and festive occasions.
We would like to thank Marcello La Scala for allowing us to view and take pictures of his father's carts which he and his son maintain in their home and workshop in Agrigento, Sicily. Marcello campaigns tirelessly for a museum for the carts, but the government has so far refused his requests. That's a shame. >>>

Das berühmte Tal der Tempel, eines der interessantesten archäologischen Stätten der Insel. Als Kulisse eine Skyline von Hochhäusern, die in Sizilien ihresgleichen sucht. Unsichtbar dahinter das reizvolle, mittelalterlich und barock geprägte Zentrum. Agrigento hat viele Gesichter. Die Busladungen von Touristen, die mal schnell die Tempel „abhaken“ bekommen die antike Seite der Provinzhauptstadt zu Gesicht.

Die Reste des mächtigen griechischen Akraga, von den Römern in Agrigentum umbenannt, die beeindruckende Reihe von Tempeln inmitten einer heitern, lichten Landschaft sich auch völlig zu Recht der Hauptanziehungspunkt der Stadt. Eine Reihe von Tempeln im Tal der Tempel haben den Ruhm von Agrigento ausgemacht, heute im einheitlichen Honiggelb waren sie früher mit Stuck verkleidet und bunt bemalt.
